Colleges accepting CLAT scores other than NLUs

With over 47000 students competing for 2820 seats in NLUs in 2019, CLAT is seen as one of the most difficult entrance exams in the country. Around 54,450 students appeared for CLAT in 2018, too. With a minute increment of the seats in National Law Universities this year and the number of students expected to grow by 3000 to 5000, this test is definitely not getting any easier to crack. CLAT being a merit cum preference test, not all students can get admission into the top colleges and there is a common misconception amongst the aspirants that National Law Universitiesare the only colleges worth joining and taking admission into most other Universities is a risk. However, there are a lot of other private and government colleges which not only provide quality education but even outclass a few new National Law Universities (NLU). Here is a list of such colleges:

Name of the College Location
Amity Law School Delhi
Institute of Law, Nirma University Ahmedabad
UPES Dehradun
Lloyd Law College Noida
Raffles University Neemrana
Vivekanand Institute of Professional Sciences Delhi
Indore Institute of Law Indore
Rajasthan University Jaipur
Alliance School of Law Bangalore

The Academic rigour, legal research, mooting culture, internships and placements at these colleges are comparable with standards set by the NationalLaw Universities.Law schools located in Delhi, Ahmedabad and other such cities provide studentswith an excellent opportunity to network and intern while they are still in college. This networking and the internship experiences provide sufficient exposure to students to give clarity about their career, be it corporate, legal practise, litigation, NGO or a judicial clerkship. Many colleges also offer B.B.A. LL. B. course instead of offering just B.A. LLB. course, which is helpful for students intending to build a career in corporatelegal practice as pre-requisite knowledge of business comes in handy in corporate legal practice.

There are other colleges such as NLU-Delhi, Symbiosis Law School-Pune, Symbiosis Law School-Noida, Christ School of Law-Bangalore, KLE Law Society-Bangalore, too, which are no less than NLUs in any term. But these colleges have their entrance tests such as AILET, SLAT, LSAT etc. Moreover, colleges and universities only act as facilitators to provide a platform to the students. It is an undeniable fact the brand name of the college does help, but still, a majority of it remains on the shoulders of the law student himself to see whether his dreams are achieved. Just getting an admission into a top law college is definitely not just the only parameter to succeed in the field of law. It requires the hard work one puts, the consistency and the dedication one shows, and how determined one is in the law school. Not securing admission into a National Law University cannot be seen as the end of the world. Every year, plenty of students graduating from non-NLUs secure top ranks in judicial services examinations, get lucrative corporate jobs and join the offices of senior advocates in Hon’ble High Courts and The Hon’ble Supreme Court.
