Legal assignments/projectsgiven out are an excellent opportunity to go into the depth of a stream of a subject in the field of law. Any law student can learn a great deal about the subject if he takes his assignment seriously and works on them with integrity. It lies on theuniversityto provide creative, unconventional and out-of-the-boxassignmentsto the students to hone their creative skills.
What majority law schools lack nowadays is the primary and simple ability to synthesize, blend and amalgamate various laws and bring it into one big umbrella. The lack of a lawapproach in some law schools many times leads students to confusion and ambiguity, and they lack appreciation for the subjects they study. Law students are unable to integrate and reconcile what they study with the real legal world. Therefore, most of the times, students have no clue as to what is happening around in courtrooms, and they waste their time during their internship periods.
How to stimulate creativity and bring fun into law classrooms:
We all are aware ofthe submission of everydayproject work in which law students have to do research and submit a 1,000-2,000-word report on that subject. These types of activities don’t help students retain the subject or issue on which the project was submitted, and therefore creativity is the need of the hour to be ahead of the curve and make learning FUN for law students and color their creative hats!
Some personal examples:
- In our classes of Principle of Management, the students had to do role-plays to understand better the various management ‘fundas’ like Planning, Organizing, Control etc.
- In our classes of Prevention of Corruption lectures, we were given an assignment of essay writing in which we had to point out of instances of ‘corruption’ from our favourite books, movies etc. I still recollect writing an essay on the famous John Grisham movie ‘The Firm’!
- Another favourite was filing an RTI application for a nearby bridge, where the work and roads were disrupted from the last four years.
Similarly, constant innovation in the field of education is necessary and WOLR acts as an impetus in such pursuits. We collaborate with universities and institutions and help customized designactivities and innovative activities to enhance legal research, legal writing and make the learning fun!
